- 900%+ ROIon paid advertising campaigns
“For a long time I was just making songs, playing shows, and hoping the rest would work itself out. Digital Star helps me with the business side of things. Now I feel good about how the music lives in the world. I’ve got my own studio, shop, and label, and a way to share the music with the people who want it. And I get to do it my way.”
Todd Snider spent 30 years building a catalog and a loyal following. What he needed was a way to turn that into real independence. Digital Star became the operating system behind his business, supporting strategy, creative direction, web development, and direct-to-fan marketing so Todd could fully own how his work lived in the world.
Over more than a decade, Digital Star supported 24+ album releases, built 20+ custom websites and Shopify stores, and managed all advertising in-house. We developed the bundle strategy that turned free music into meaningful revenue, helped place three albums in the Top 50 charts, and built an owned audience of 118,000+ subscribers that drove over $1M in direct merchandise sales.
Architects of independence.
When touring paused, free livestreams from The Purple Building exceeded $20,000 per episode in tips. For his 30th anniversary, Todd re-recorded his entire catalog and released it for free, pairing each drop with limited bundles that sold out in hours and generated hundreds of thousands in revenue. The result is a business that worked on his terms, on or off the road.
Growing a fanbase through strategic digital marketing.
We worked with Aimless, Inc. to architect a long-term roadmap centered on direct fan distribution rather than traditional label reliance. Our team engineered a model where the music functioned as the primary discovery tool for a proprietary lead-gen system. By prioritizing the fan relationship in a tracked, digital environment we controlled, we positioned the artist to operate with the precision of a modern tech company. Behind the scenes, we handled every touchpoint—from release strategy to campaign targeting and optimization—ensuring that every interaction moved a listener deeper into a self-sustaining ecosystem.
Our Approach
Engineering the center of a streaming universe.
We performed a massive overhaul of the digital infrastructure, moving from fragmented custom builds to a high-performance WordPress and Shopify ecosystem. This move allowed us to turn social platforms into direct sales channels by integrating store inventory across Google and Meta. We unified the comms stack through MailChimp and ManyChat, deploying an automated sequence that traded raw value for long-term loyalty. For the 30-year anniversary celebration, we re-recorded the entire studio catalog at The Purple Building, utilizing a monthly release cadence to keep the mission clear and grant the artist’s legacy the volume it deserves.
